The ‘Paranormal Entity’ Franchise: Ranked

Here is my ranking (from least favourite to most favourite) of the films within the Paranormal Entity franchise, with a short explanation accompanying each:

(Side note: This really isn’t a franchise as such, just a title The Asylum attribute to other films!)

  #4 – Paranormal Entity

Paranormal Entity 1

The only one to originally bear the title “Paranormal Entity” as a clear cash-in attempt on the Paranormal Activity franchise. Though it has some originality, it just doesn’t deviate from it far enough or do anything as well.

#3 – Paranormal Entity 3: The Exorcist Tapes (aka Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes)

Paranormal Entity 3 - The Exorcist Tapes aka Anneliese - The Exorcist Tapes

Though it draws more directly from the real life exorcism of Anneliese Michel than the “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, it is by far inferior and only manages to scrape #3 based on one funny line.

#2 – Paranormal Entity 4: The Awakening (aka 100 Ghost Street: The Return of Richard Speck)

Paranormal Entity 4 -The Awakening aka 100 Ghost Street - The Return of Richard Speck

Though in #2, this film is far from great. However unlike the previous entries there isn’t anything that makes it god damn awful. It is cohesive and has it’s moments, maybe because Richard Speck was real.

#1 – Paranormal Entity 2: Gacy House (aka 8213 Gacy House)

Paranormal Entity 2 - Gacy House aka 8213 - Gacy House

By far the scariest of the bunch, perhaps purely because of the nature and extent of the real life crimes committed by John Wayne Gacy and how they resonate with who I am – a gay male. Watching it for the first time late at night and then reading up on the facts sent chills down my spine, which cemented the film in my mind – especially the thermal cameras when he charges towards the screen! It may not be a masterpiece but it hit home…

Agree or disagree? Let me know.
