A night in a sauna turns into a fight for survival as two men must overcome prejudices and join forces to take down a horde of towel wearing zombies.
Why you should watch it:
- TOWEL WEARING ZOMBIES
- A broom is used as a weapon and a mop as a tool
- The moral of the ‘fairy tale’
A little more insight…
Sauna The Dead – A Fairy Tale is a brilliant lighthearted mash-up of zombies with fairy tales. It’s exactly what you’d expect; almost a gay version of Shaun of the Dead, even with it’s own ‘act dead’ scene, but with a fantastical twist to it.
What ties it together is the moral of the fairy tale; the way we treat each other ultimately creates the worlds we live in. How profound is that? How much sense does that actually make? So how does it translate into the film? Well in the sauna men treat each other like meat, so in the fairy tale world they literally become zombies and eat one another. If you look beyond the surface and treat others how you’d like to be treated then the world will be a much better place.
It’s got everything you’d expect from a zombie flick with chases, hiding, plotting and planning which ultimately fails in on way or another. What stuck out for me was the use of a broom and a mop. How fantastically ridiculous is that?
How it all ends you will have to find out for yourself because I don’t want to ruin the magic!

Things that bugged me:
- Feeling unsure about whether the necklace had any significance beyond a conversation piece
