The ‘Predator’ Franchise: Ranked

Here is my ranking (from least favourite to most favourite) of the films within the Predator franchise (including Alien vs. Predator films), with a short explanation accompanying each:

#5- Alien vs. Predator: Requiem

AVP2

Rather forgettable with the coolest thing about it, the ‘Predalien’, being underutilised and barely distinguishable from other xenomorphs.

#4 – Predators

Predators

Not terrible, just miscast.

(Let’s see how ‘The Predator’ fares as a prequel/sequel/reboot or whatever it will be)

#3 – Predator 2

Predator 2

From the jungle to the, er, concrete jungle. It doesn’t add to the original, but it doesn’t tarnish the franchise either. The xenomorph skull in the background (before the AVP flms) probably bumps it up for me.

#2 – Alien vs. Predator

AVP

It may not rank highly within the Alien franchise, but come on; who wouldn’t want to watch these two go head-to-head? It has awesome fight scenes and fits better with the Predator franchise than it does the Alien franchise.

 #1 – Predator

Predator

A perfect example of ‘the hunter becoming the hunted’ trope being used effectively, through the utilisation of the setting – it is integral to the plot, to the tension and to the action (which is why the sequels fare less well). Though Schwarzenegger is not known for his acting chops, he is perfectly cast in this and as true classics do, it has spawned an infamous line: “Get to the choppa!”

Agree or disagree? Let me know.

Please note that these posts are likely to evolve over time as I get a feel for them, so any feedback about style would be greatly appreciated!
