“Best friends John and Nicolas aren’t confident about having sex with girls, so to avoid embarrassment; they decide to get some practice – on each other.”
Written & Directed by: Anna Österlund Nolskog
Starring: Charlie Gustafsson & Joakim Lang
I think I need to cool off after Boygame or get a time machine, go back to my teens, pretend to be straight and then have all of this fun I missed out on. So, back to the film and moving away from the sex; it was well balanced with it’s portrayal of two inexperienced ‘straight’ guys who are close enough that they think sex wouldn’t mess anything up. They appear just like any boyish teens; young, shy and hormonal. The whole scene in the supermarket with the cashier was just funny. Then it builds into awkwardness and tension up until the moment that it happens. Yes, it looks as if their romp will pay off as they both appear to ‘get the girl’ but, bubbling underneath, there is something more at play. Apparently it’s less ‘homo’ for John to bottom than it is for him to perform oral – the lines are so blurred these days; though in a perfect society there would be no lines in terms of love and sex. The dialogue and subtleties of the performances, the odd look here or that look at the end, push this act of practice into something more… or I’m just hopeful that they’re going to realise that they love one another.
Things I Liked: 1 - The dialogue 2 - The performances 3 - The potential subplot Things I Didn't Like: 1 - Unanswered questions; don't leave me hoping!
