“The Boys’ Village was once a holiday home for coalminers’ sons, boasting a pool and sports yard. Now, not much remains, this is a parent’s nightmare and yet it can be heaven on earth for a certain kind of child. Kevin has been 11 years old for quite some time now. Has it been years or decades?”
Written & Directed by: Till Kleinert
Starring: Benjamin Thorne, Andrew McQueen & Hannah-Rose Jones
Boys Village is a well crafted eerie short which manages to keep you hooked from beginning to end. It does well to build up the tension and make you second guess what you are seeing; what’s real and what isn’t? Central to it’s plot and themes is isolation, which makes Kevin’s motivations believable, if a little weird. The ending raises more questions in your mind, ones which are left open for interpretation and, for once, it works.
