Headlong (BOF10)

Drama | 17mins | French/English (Belgium) | 2012

“On the night of a dance competition a young ballet dancer is in a foreign place. He finds himself alone in his hotel room and when this emptiness overpowers him, he meets a stranger that could change everything.”

Written & Directed by: Lukas Dhont
Starring: Jelle Florizoone & Thomas Coumans

Headlong is subtle in its approach and delivery. Not a lot happens and everything is inferred. For me this doesn’t make for engaging storytelling. I questioned the motivations of the characters too much and couldn’t connect. That’s not too say that it’s bad, it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not. It’s short, concise and does show an overall character development.

Things I Liked:
1 - The simplicity and focus

Things I Didn't Like:
1 - Questionable motivation
2 - Unanswered questions
