“Rossi’s family are no different from anyone else’s but when he tries to fit in with his older brother’s group of friends, he finds the outcome more than surprising.”
Written and Directed by: Caru Alves de Souza
Starring: Kauê Telloli, Cláudia Assunção, Thiago Pinheiro, Ney Piacentini, Thiago Franco Balieiro & Johnnas Oliva
Family Affair (Assunto de Família) is surprising but conflicted. It appears to be trying to say a lot about Brazilian society (or at least the working classes) but leaves many questions unanswered. What worked is that the familial dynamic was set from the start and to many is familiar (especially if you have an older brother). The moment when Rossi was kissed by his brother’s friend was out of the blue. There were small hints but I was not expecting it and it was hot! The following scene on which it ended however seemed unnecessary.
Things I Liked: 1 - Set up of the family dynamic 2 - Surprising kiss Things I Didn't Like: 1 - Confusing sub-plots 2 - The ending
