“Santiago, Chile, 1986. Blokes tells the story of the sexual awakening of a boy during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Desire can result in a very different outcome depending on the moment that you live.”

… in 1 word:
Powerful.

… in 10 words:
Blokes is politically charged but wrapped in a dangerously sweet tale.

… in 100 words:
I’m not sure what I expected from Blokes but it surprised me, and by the end I wanted to know more and stay with the characters. It’s a snapshot into a major part of Chilean history, seen through a gay lens. There were various moments that resonated with how I felt when I was coming to terms with my sexuality; but I won’t post spoilers. Everything worked together to capture the period, from the graininess of the film to the entire location. What was most beautiful was how the only words spoken by Luchito were the name of his crush.

Now go and watch it…
